Life After Retirement

I used to write a blog called Deep Thoughts. I posted thousands of times on a wide range of subjects, but specialized in religious hypocrisy. The cumulative effect of these depressing stories was horrible for me, and I burned out. I stopped writing for external consumption and turned my attention inward. My personal journal grew and soon became my passion. One idea kept resurfacing: engagement and discussions with people who read my less-serious content filled me with joy and fed my sense of wonder. The best way to experience that feeling again would be here, blogging again. But this time, less of the bad news and more of the good.

My life is different now. My sons are grown and have started families of their own. I’m a grandpa and recently retired. Since retiring, I’ve rekindled my love for disc golf, hiking, photography, and art. I’ve also started a weight loss journey that I’m excited to share.

I’m still an atheist. I can’t see how that will change, but my connection to people has changed as I navigate moving from a high-pressure management position to a friendly and present friend, grandfather, and husband. Life is great, and I’m happy to be back at my keyboard.
