A Story from My Day
It’s a Thursday morning as I write this. On Tuesday around noon, I received my annual vaccinations for COVID, seasonal flu, and RSV. I did not react well. Tuesday night was miserable, and Wednesday was largely a blur. I missed the vice presidential debate along with a day’s worth of news as I slept through the headache and body aches. I had to keep reminding myself that a COVID infection would be far worse.
During my downtime, Jack Smith updated brief on Trump’s election case was released to the public. I spent the morning catching up. Trump’s actions are breathtakingly criminal.
“Make them riot” – Trump campaign official
While reading the brief, I kept flashing back to an old music video by the Flobots called Handlebars. In the video, there’s a juxtaposition of innocence and unchecked political ambition. On a broader level, it critiques how both society and individuals can lose sight of their humanity as they pursue power and dominance. This brings us back to Donald J. Trump and his desperate, criminal attempt to hold onto power. In the end, there was a riot, and people died. Thankfully, democracy survived.
But perhaps the most vivid new detail comes from shortly after Trump’s Pence tweet. It says an aide relayed a phone call to Trump stating that Pence had been taken to a secure location. The aide hoped Trump would do something to help, according to the filing. Instead, Trump allegedly responded, “So what?” – 5 takeaways from the unsealed new filing on Trump’s 2020 election plot
Four years later, I’m less optimistic about our future. The evidence makes it clear that Trump should never be allowed near the presidency again—but here we are. It’s also clear that the Republican establishment enabled this mess. Trump needs to spend the rest of his life in prison, and the Republican senators and congressmen who enabled him should be voted out of office. We can start with Ted Cruz, but there are many others.
