Yesterday, as I sat in my car watching the sunset over Los Angeles, I took a photo to share with a friend back in Texas. The sky was painted in stunning colors—a bittersweet beauty born from the devastation of our fires. At the time, I didn’t expect how deeply it would affect me.
The sadness hit later, as I scrolled through Instagram and saw the powerful work of fire and environmental photographer Stuart Palley. It struck me that those vibrant colors were made from the ashes of memories, the lives and homes lost to the fires in Pacific Palisades. The sunset was breathtaking, yet profoundly tragic. It’s hard to fathom how those directly affected by the fires cope with such immense loss.
