My wife and I are on a mission: to find a new pho restaurant to call home. I won’t get into the reasons why we’re leaving behind our current favorite. Let’s just say that two deeply entrenched introverts value our quiet headspace more than the food itself. So, after one final meal, we decided to move on.
The Plan
The rules for our search are simple:
- The new spot must be within the same driving distance as our last one—7.4 miles.
- We’ll sample at least five restaurants before making a decision.
- It has to feel right.
Now, when I say “feel right,” we’re not setting a strict criteria for what makes a place “the best.” That’s pretty typical for us. What we do know is that the ideal spot must meet these minimum requirements:
- Good pho.
- Solid spring rolls.
- A welcoming environment for introverts.
The last point is crucial. We’re looking for a place with low noise, minimal unnecessary conversation, and quick, efficient service. In short, somewhere we can enjoy a meal without feeling overstimulated or interrupted.
The Search Begins
Living in the LA/OC area means we’re lucky to have a wealth of options. A quick Google Maps search reveals at least seven solid candidates within our search radius, plus three or four more with a more eclectic menu that might still be worth a try.
The challenge ahead excites me, though. Each visit will be like an experiment, testing out flavors, vibes, and how well each restaurant aligns with our introverted preferences. With so many options, I’m optimistic we’ll find our new pho haven soon.
Let the search begin. Pho perfection awaits.
