In a previous post, I wrote about starting a 0.5 mL dose of Wegovy after taking a break from Ozempic due to some intense side effects. As of this morning, I’ve taken three doses, with my fourth scheduled for tomorrow. So far, I’m adapting well with very few side effects. I plan to stay on this dose for another month before stepping up to the next level.
On the upside, I’ve noticed that my daily blood glucose readings have dropped by about 7 percent, and the variability in those readings has tightened up. I’ve also lost 8 pounds over the last three weeks.
Side effects have been minimal, but I wanted to share a few things I’ve noticed:
First, when I was on Ozempic, I often felt cold no matter the temperature, even on hot days. That feeling went away after I stopped taking it, but it’s returned in a milder form over the last two weeks. I often feel like I have a chill, though it fades when I’m outside in the heat. It’s manageable, but I plan to mention it to my doctor just to be safe.
Second, my appetite dropped almost completely within a few days of starting Wegovy, which is a good thing. But I’ve had at least two episodes of sudden, intense hunger that felt like I was starving, even after eating modest meals. The most recent episode led to overeating, which then caused bloating and nausea after a light dinner. If I had to guess, I’d say this is related to delayed stomach emptying. The feeling passed after a few hours of sleep.
Lastly, I’ve noticed some discomfort when drinking hot coffee on an empty stomach. I experimented with switching to cold brew, and the discomfort went away. I’ve now shifted to drinking coffee after breakfast, which seems to help. I’ve also increased my water intake in the mornings, aiming for 24 ounces before my first cup of coffee. One final thought on this: it could just be aging.
As for meals, I eat modestly. Greek yogurt in the morning, a sandwich or soup for lunch, and a can of sardines for dinner. I occasionally eat larger meals, but even those are small by my old standards.
Overall, I think the shift to Wegovy is working and manageable. My main concern is protein intake, so most of my meals are protein-focused. One issue I didn’t write much about during my Ozempic journey was muscle loss. Since stopping, I’ve been working hard to rebuild muscle and plan to continue that effort while on Wegovy. I’ve made progress in my legs and back, but my arm strength is still far below what it used to be. It’s slow going, but I’m moving in the right direction.
