I’ve been eating a lot of sardines lately, so I decided to take a short break and try a tin of King Oscar Salmon in Olive Oil. These sell for $5.25 a can at my local grocery store. I also picked up a tin of King Oscar Sardines, which I’ll review soon.

Each can lists one serving at 150 calories if drained. I added eight saltine crackers, bumping the total to around 250 calories and 20 carbs, plus a healthy dose of vitamin D and omega-3s. It turned out to be a satisfying, Wegovy-friendly meal.
Taste and texture were good overall, but the leftover oil wasn’t appealing. If I could, I would have rinsed the salmon. Instead, I patted it dry, which worked well enough. The flesh was firm, moist, and flaked easily under the fork. Eaten plain, it was solid. On a cracker, it was even better.

From a price-to-value standpoint, $5.25 feels fair for an occasional meal. I found a three-pack for $12.42 at Walmart (about $4.14 per tin), but dealing with Walmart is a bridge too far for me. Maybe it’s time to get over that phobia, a strategic trip might be worth it.
My Rating: 6 out of 10.
A good, simple meal with solid nutrition, held back only by the off-putting oil. I’ll keep these in rotation about once a week.

A firm, flaky salmon in olive oil that delivers solid flavor and nutrition at a fair price. A satisfying, Wegovy-friendly meal, just wish the oil tasted better.
